Creating a website that will generate traffic in and of itself does not generate income. However, businesses will be happy to pay you for exposing your traffic to their products. Carefully targeted traffic, or traffic interested in your topic, translates to dollar signs for the businesses that create related products and that means dollars for you. This is known as affiliate marketing. You can earn a commission, of up to 75%, on products sold through your website. The business wins a sale, the customer wins a product and you win a commission. Many businesses have extremely simple affiliate programs that only require registration. Others may want to have a relationship with you and to understand your website and/or brand. In the end, the businesses that you work with will provide you with code that defines a small ad, or a special link. This code is placed on your site. When a customer clicks on the ad and arrives at the business’ official site, the code identifies that he or she arrived through your site. Various policies apply, such as a 30 day wait to ensure the product isn’t returned, but ultimately you will receive a commission for generating the sale. It’s as simple as that!
